- “Starkweather wants 'em both taken out!”
“The angel of death is home and awaiting visitors!”
Border Patrol is a mission in the Manhunt series featured as the 18th scene in Manhunt.
Plot Summary[]
The Cerberus successfully capture Cash and transport him to Starkweather's estate. However, former snuff film star Piggsy escapes his prison, distracting the Cerberus team who are subsequently slaughtered by him. Cash exploits this to make his way inside the mansion while facing the Cerberus patrolling the land.
Scene[]
Introduction[]
The Journalist is outside Starkweather's mansion with a mobile news team and press choppers hovering in the sky. She is covering the story on Starkweather and the allegations of him being in a snuff film ring, which he refuses to comment on according to her. She then reports that his future in the movie industry is uncertain in the midst of this controversy before she signs off.
Meanwhile, the Cerberus take Cash out of the Securicar in a garage far behind the mansion. As they bring him out, several Cerberus already outside the van aim their guns at him. They are joined by the rest of their associates as one of them tells him that he is no longer serving Starkweather now that he hopes to kill Cash. He orders one of his men to shoot the CCTV camera, cutting off the video feed to the garage.
Just after that, Piggsy is prowling the mansion's grounds with his Chainsaw, angry at being imprisoned. The Cerberus hear the disturbance but they don't know who made it, so they move out of the garage to investigate. One of them stays behind with Cash to remark on his luck before joining the others. Off-screen, the Cerberus are shocked at seeing Piggsy before calling in for backup, only to be killed.
Find the Cellar Entrance to the Mansion[]
Garage Bust-Out[]
Cash starts off behind the Securicar in the garage. He can take his time to observe his surroundings and try to arm himself, knowing that the Cerberus or Piggsy will be right behind the garage doors. There is a glass pane that be broken to yield a Glass Shard, a Wire near two garbage bins in one shadowy corner of the room, and two Bottles on a shelf beside the glass pane. Once the player believes that they are ready, they can escape by using the gate power beside the right garage door to open it.
Immediately after pressing the button, the gate will open and alert a lone Cerberus with a Heavy Handgun to investigate inside the garage. Cash can murder this hunter with the tools at hand to grab his firearm or evade him at the cost of not having a gun, unless you want to complete this level with little to no usage of firearms.
Frontyards[]
Cash steps out of the garage to find a grisly sight: the blooded and beheaded corpses of the Cerberus can be found strewn around the garden, all killed by an angry Piggsy. The area is enclosed by walls and connects to another elevated area through a gate that was destroyed by Piggsy. Before proceeding there, Cash can check the area he's in for items.
Behind the garage is a Crowbar next to a bunch of wooden crates. This is the only indisposable execution weapon in the level, so take it if you feel like you have to perform executions rather than go guns blazing. At the right and back side of the garage, there are garbage bags near the bins. These bags have a chance to drop a Bottle when kicked. There is also a Can right next to some bins at the left side of the garage.
Once the player is done with this area, they can go to the gateway to the next area. Three Cerberus with Heavy Handguns are present here and a Cerberus with a Shotgun + Light is facing the padlocked gate. There is a shed where the corpse of a Cerberus can be found hanging from the broken window. In this shed, a Glass Shard can be found and taken. Cash clears the area of all threats with whatever tools and skills he's got so that he can break the lock on the gate to enter the next area.
The Lawn[]
Beyond the gate is a small pathway enclosed by hedges. This leads to a larger and wider area where two Cerberus with Shotguns + Light are patrolling in. Points of interest in this place include a statue on top of a hill where a Glass Shard lies next to it and a gazebo overlooking an area beyond this one. Cash clears these mercs and proceeds to the next area by following the slab path. But if he crosses a certain boundary near the Save Point ahead, the Cerberus on the other side of the hedge can be heard firing their guns at something, possibly Piggsy.
Getting closer to the Save Point triggers a cutscene where a Cerberus is heard giving shoot-to-kill orders on Cash and Piggsy. A sniper unit on a balcony responds to the transmission with three varying lines, all of them indicating that he has his sector covered. The camera quickly pans to two Cerberus with Shotguns + Light moving into the garden with a fountain before panning to Cash.
Central Garden[]
Cash moves up to the Save Point to activate it. At this point, he has now entered the central garden, which is distinguished by the fountain at the center and is connected to several paths to the mansion's courtyard. Two Cerberus with Shotguns + Light patrol here, who can be killed or evaded by Cash. As long as the area is clear, the player can safely proceed to the two paths leading to the courtyard: through the maze or straight to the stairs. There are two paths adjacent to each other that connects both of these paths to the maze and stairs and can be used to flank the Cerberus found in both paths and the areas they lead to.
Through the Hedge Maze[]
The longer but safer way is to go through the hedge maze. The player must turn to the hedge arch to get there, which has a hedge in front of it. Beyond this arch is an area where three Cerberus with Assault Rifles are patrolling, they are the ones who fired the shots earlier. The player can find three hedge crosses with crucified corpses on them, all of them facing a gazebo that has a Glass Shard underneath. Cash clears or evades these mercenaries to continue moving to the maze.
Before the entrance to the maze is a strange artwork that casts a shadow for Cash to hide in. The entrance to the maze is covered with a roof, which obscures the player's sight from seeing the Cerberus with a Shotgun + Light guarding the stairs from the bottom. After getting through this Cerberus and entering the maze, the player may find two Cerberus with the same weapons patrolling the maze. Additionally, the center of the maze has a Save Point. The player can find his way to the center to activate it, in case they do not want to start over after dying. Cash clears the maze of all threats and finds his way through it to get to the exit that leads straight to the courtyard.
Through the Stairs[]
The straightforward but more dangerous way is through the stairs. It is covered by a sniper unit's line of sight and two Cerberus with Assault Rifles watch over from the area in front of them top of the stairs. It leads directly to the courtyard where many heavily armed Cerberus are found in. As such, they are more likely to come to this area, clump up, and make security tighter. Unlike the way through the maze, there are less shadows or cover to immediately hide in. Take this path if you can handle the danger and want to spend less time.
Courtyard[]
The Courtyard is the most dangerous and final area of the scene. The snipers have a portion of this area near the open stairs leading to it and the area near the entrance to the cellar as their kill-zone, while three Cerberus with Assault Rifles (not counting the two guarding the open stairs) prowl the mansion grounds. One will run up to the exit of the hedge maze from his spot at the way to the mansion's balcony once the player comes here, one is in the stairs leading to the balcony sniper covering the open courtyard stairs, and one is patrolling the area from the place near the cellar entrance. A team of 3 Cerberus with Heavy Handguns will arrive as backup and will be replaced endlessly by another team if they are killed, only stopping until the two snipers are killed.
Once these threats are snuffed or evaded, Cash can freely go to the other end of the courtyard. The cellar entrance is there, which is ominously marked by impaled heads on the entrance. The endless teams of Heavy Handgun-wielding Cerberus spawn from here, but it is safe if the snipers are killed. Cash goes through the alley leading to a small stairs to the cellar entrance, completing the scene.
