If I get out of this, I'm gonna CRUCIFY Starkweather MYSELF!
―The Cerberus Leader's plans after terminating Cash - Plans that never saw the light of day.

The Cerberus Leader is a character in the Manhunt series who appears as the tertiary antagonist in Manhunt and a Major character, serving as one of Cash's opponents throughout a good majority of the game.

As his title implies, The Cerberus Leader leads Lionel Starkweather's Private Security Company/Unit by the name of Cerberus, being a feared figure amongst many of his peers. The Leader himself shows a disdain towards both Ramirez and even his men alike.

Background[]

Little is known about the Cerberus Leader's life prior to the events of Manhunt.

It is speculated that the Cerberus Leader is the said ex-NSA clandestine officer that appears in the Valiant Video Catalogue.

At some point before the events of the game in 2003, the Cerberus Leader either became the leader of Snuff Film Director's Lionel Starkweather's private security unit or either was contracted by Starkweather into having him and his unit help out in Snuff Filming. The latter is more likely, which hints that the Leader formed Cerberus at some point before the events of Manhunt.

Before 2003, the Cerberus Leader most likely participated in at-least one snuff tape that Starkweather had filmed, perhaps even more.

History[]

Events of Manhunt[]

The Cerberus Leader first appears during the final cutscene of Road to Ruin, where he briefly holds Cash at gunpoint as he shortly after lets his men violently beat him up until he is unconscious. When Cash finally blacks out from the beating, he orders his men to "get him out of here" [1] and onto the next location.

He seems to despise Cash for killing many of his own men mostly after Kill The Rabbit and Border Patrol.

After Piggsy manages to break his chains and Cash gets inside Starkweather's Estate, he warns two units and the rest of his men that as long as they are both alive, they ran the risk of hunting down the security operatives and shortly after fleeing to cause most likely havoc in the city itself.

The Cerberus were somewhat confident that they'd manage to outlive the two lunatics, however, the Cerberus Leader, with few of his men that were ordered to stay in the ground levels of Starkweather's Estate, are all ultimately killed by Cash himself and he uses the elevator key to get access to Starkweather's attic which housed the very remnants of the Private Company.

Image File name Description
CerberusLeader-MH-Led Led_Hed The Cerberus leader is a tall, caucasian, muscular man with a distinct scar over his left eye, seemingly running through the left side of his face. Like the other units, the Leader bears a bulletproof helmet on his head that also houses a radio akin to his unit's, yet on the different side of the head other than the regular left. He covers his right eye with a cybernetic eyepiece that seemingly replaces his right eye with unique functions (perhaps with a H.U.D) although the exact functions of it are both unknown and never stated.

His outfit consists of one similar to the units he trains, bearing a black leather military jacket with integrated elbow pads (and what appear to also be shoulder pads) with adjoined pants that have a black digital camouflage to them. The jacket bears a black armband that runs across his general bicep/triceps area with a yellow emblem on it and "silver" lining. The leader bears an integrated kneepad an integrated pouch running with an empty holster on his legs too.

The "general" armor that the Leader dons consists of a padded riot vest (that is most likely THRICE as powerful as his other units due to his health in Key Personnel) that itself dons a single-point strap over it that is most likely housed to store weapons, like Cash. The strap itself also houses some grenades like some Cerberus units. The vest houses two pouches on the Leader's lower left and a pouch on his right flank, succeeded by two belts that wrap around the leader's waist. The top belt carries five shotgun shells while the bottom one simply houses two pouches right underneath the shotgun shells. His right hip houses another empty pistol holster and a telescopic baton on the back of it. One of the belts on the leaders waist also bears yet another two pouches there, one longer than the other. To top it all off, he also has a backpack with two small pouches themselves on the left.

Trivia[]

  • Due to a mistake in Key Personnel's entityTypeData.ini, the Cerberus Leader uses normal Cerberus dialogue (VOICE CERBERUS), even though he has his own special set of dialogue (VOICE CERBERUS_LEADER).
  • It is speculated that after killing Cash the Cerberus Leader was to either go into hiding, kill Starkweather or both.
  • The Cerberus Leader had used a total of three weapons in the entirety of the game:
  • He is the second person to have used the word "F****ot" [2] in the game, a discriminatory homophobic slur.
  • In a way akin to Ramirez, the Leader seems to be a domineering and demanding person that is a feared figure amongst the security unit. He often orders his men around and even goes to such a low to insult them due to either their failures or just their general "delinquency".
  • There is an developer oversight where the Leader can switch armbands from yellow to red, even in front of the player. [3]
  • Unlike Ramirez, The Cerberus Leader can be executed. This is a potential oversight considering the Cerberus Leader possesses a similar role to Ramirez within the Cerberus.
    • It can be argued that the developers of Manhunt hadn't anticipated that the player would be able to execute the Leader with a melee weapon, opting to use firearms as it was easier and more convenient.
