Look, punk! You probably think this is funny, but you're in very serious trouble!
―Cop 1 is getting too old for this shit

Cop 1 is an officer of the Carcer City Police Department in Manhunt.

Background[]

This old cop seems to be a Catholic, since he can be heard praying to God when he's about to be murdered.[1] Like most of the officers, this cop can be heard criticizing Carcer City's ignorance to the homeless increasing in number, whom he believes are menaces to society and the reason he's hunting for Cash in the first place.[2][3] As such, he has a very radical suggestion on dealing with the city's homelessness problem where the city should capture and tag all vagrants as if they were stray dogs.[4][5] Also like the rest of the cops, he has arrested many vagrants before[6] (even doing police brutality on them[7][8][9]), since he'd rather not deal with the tedious paperwork that comes with arresting bums.[10] He has also dealt with and responded to mental cases before Cash in the line of duty.[11]

He wears a uniform that's property of and issued to him by his police department.[12] He claims to not be a stereotype of a donut-eating cop,[13] but he still is one.[14]

Personality and Mannerisms[]

  • The following is a list of his personality as an old and experienced police officer in the Carcer City PD.
    • It is implied he's on a power trip since he exercises police brutality on weaker people (such as the homeless)[7][8][9] plus he forces others to be obedient.[15] He thinks that cops are to be respected, since he also thinks that being a cop-killer is a stigma.[16] As such, he hates all delinquents against the police.
      • Half of his dialogue for spotting Cash was meant to trigger when he spotted him while he's already seen by another cop (the final version merges dialogue for spotting the player alone and spotting the player who is already facing another hunter), implying that he is more inclined to do police brutality as a group. The other half of his dialogue for spotting Cash is for spotting him without another hunter, which implies that he only makes an arrest when he's not with another officer. This seems to be trait shared by other cops.
        • This might imply the existence of an evil and toxic fraternity within the CCPD, like the one that Cop 4 is in.
    • Over the years of his service in the CCPD, he has accumulated lots of street smarts that he uses to his advantage against urban criminals.[17][18]
    • Interestingly, this cop is a lot less vulgar and boorish (cuss words aren't frequent in his dialogue, including his insults towards Cash) than most hunters since he's a relatively normal member of society rather than a thug. Still, this belies his cruelty which is equal to that of a thug's.
  • Has the generic hunter personality (albeit with a few differences since he isn't a killer thug participating in a bloodsport), which includes the following examples:
    • He has a pain tolerance,[19] although he doesn't tolerate being fought against since it's a crime.[20][21][22] Might imply his experience with violent criminals.
    • He can get frustrated when he fails to catch Cash, implying his dedication to doing his job and ending the manhunt.[23][24][25]

Relationships[]

Personal life[]

He has a wife named Barbara whom he was about to go to bed with before the manhunt forced him to leave her for work. He hopes to make up for this in the weekend.[26][27]

With the CCPD[]

Like most hunters, he cooperates with his fellow officers to capture Cash, assisting others or calling for help when the time arises. He is friendly with all officers, greeting each one he meets.[28][29] He knew one of the cops in the manhunt for Cash had a family.[30] He is also part of a friend group who takes turns buying donuts for them, and one of the cops in his circle is participating in the manhunt with him.[14] Because of this, he will avenge any dead cops by killing their murderer Cash.[31]

He relies on the CCPD's Special Weapons and Tactics team to deal with dangerous criminals.[32][33]

With Valiant Video and the manhunt[]

This cop was told that the manhunt was caused by a disturbance by a mentally ill person, which he remarks as the strangest one he has ever responded to.[11] He was called to respond just when he was about to sleep with his wife[26][34] before he answered the call to work the overtime shift, but he regrets it and hopes to not do it again since it costs him a peaceful night with his wife,[35] although he may just accept it and do his job regardless.[36]

He thinks the manhunt is a bite in the ass for the state who has ignored its homeless problem for a long time.[2][3] Regardless, this manhunt is just another opportunity for him to hunt down another homeless guy[9] but he suspects that whoever reported this to the police was just drunk and that this manhunt is just a wild goose chase.[37]

Sometimes he feels like he's an unnecessary element in this manhunt, an implication of how the CCPD haphazardly threw every police officer they can reach to respond to the hunt.[38] He's also doubtful about his true role in this hunt and has no idea what they're really doing[39] since they were given little information, rousing a feeling of suspicion in him about the whole operation.[40]

He is poorly equipped for the manhunt, having nothing useful for searching for Cash in the dark[41] and asking the other cops for a taser.[42]

He finds the night of the manhunt eerily quiet,[43] but he may also find it alright regardless, both of which he shares to other cops.[44]

With the Journalist[]

When he spots the Journalist, he sounds mad at her and calls her a “bitch” for some reason, probably out of frustration or some hatred.[45][46] Just like what he will do to Cash, he will arrest her but on the pretext of her being “wanted for questioning” by the CCPD.[47]

With Cash[]

Cash's identity is largely unknown to this cop.[39] Like the rest of the cops in this manhunt, he was only given vague details about him,[48] although he may have been told that Cash is a vagrant who is mentally ill[11][49] (thus he surmises that Cash might have escaped from a psychiatric hospital[50]), high on crack cocaine,[51][52] and he is intoxicated by alcohol,[34][53] thus he underestimates him sometimes with this info.[54][55] Because he knows little about Cash, he has no prior knowledge of him being A&D[56] and slippery,[23] so the uncertainty makes him shoot first and ask later once he's down.[57] All of this makes him impersonally contempt and mock Cash for being the above.[58][59]

Notwithstanding the killer AI of the CCPD, this cop has orders to arrest Cash and will attempt to make the arrest whenever he spots him.[33][22][60][61]

Even after killing Cash and taking a closer look at his corpse, he still has no idea who Cash is (implying that even Cash wasn't infamous to any of the cops in the manhunt), but realizes that he probably was not hunting a vagrant when he notices his recently shaved scalp and his face.[62] He's also curious about why Cash would go out in the middle of the night to cause mayhem, finding it very strange.[63]

Once Cash plows through the police in Press Coverage, this cop will reappear in Wrong Side of the Tracks to secure the first platform at Carcer Line and Station that Cash is in. It is during this scene that this cop will begin to take Cash seriously (even though the rest of his dialogue does not change in accordance to this), since he will be shocked and alarmed when he first spots Cash entering the station.[64]
