You like hide and seek? You like hide and fucking seek? Well we're coming for you, asshole.
Ramirez to Cash on what's about to go down tonight

Divided They Fall is the 14th Scene featured in Manhunt.

Plot Summary[]

With the snuff film getting out of control, the Director dispatches Ramirez to capture Cash. Meanwhile, Cash tries to seek refuge in an apartment, only to be ambushed by Ramirez and his Wardogs. Before they bring him to the Director, they decide to play a deadly game of hide and seek with Cash where they hunt him down within the sealed apartment grounds. Once again, the Wardogs lose control of the situation as he turns the tables. Now, he must face the Wardogs once again and kill Ramirez before escaping with his life once again.

Scene[]

Introduction[]

After escaping from Darkwoods Penitentiary, Cash opens a wooden gate and cautiously steps through it, entering an abandoned apartment area. He is ambushed and caught by Ramirez, who quickly overpowers Cash by choking him with one hand and pushing him against a wall while spouting abusive language. He proceeds to let go of Cash to beat him up while threatening to kill him before knocking him down with a double axe handle punch. He then kicks him in the gut while taunting him before finishing it off with a punch to the face.

Ramirez proceeds to disarm Cash of all his weapons, including a Shotgun and a Heavy Handgun for some reason, while he mocks his stealth tactics. Cash tries to lift himself up with his arms, but Ramirez steps on his back to keep him pinned as he tells him that he intends to play a bloodsport version of hide-and-seek with him while three Wardogs with machetes surround their prey who begins to get up. They too join their leader in insulting Cash while Ramirez locks the apartment gate. The Wardogs push Cash around before he flees from them to hide as the game begins.

Park[]

Some time has passed and the three Wardogs from earlier have failed to find Cash. Irritated, Ramirez―who is armed with a Sniper Rifle to pick off Cash from the top floor of the apartment―barks at his men to find him. The Wardogs prowl the apartment grounds in search of Cash. But Cash kills these Wardogs which further frustrates Ramirez who deploys a team of three Wardogs armed with Shotguns to kill Cash for good. Two of them move out while one delays his deployment to lock and load before joining his fellow soldiers. It is after this scene that Cash is able to move into the apartment.

Apartment[]

Floor 1[]

Coming down from the top floor, the three Wardogs run down to the first floor to hunt down Cash wherever they may find. Two Wardogs take up positions at the end of a hallway and near the first doorway of a vacant room that contains a trash bag holding Painkillers. Cash deals with these Wardogs by any means at his disposal and walks up the stairs to the next floor where the player can find the entire scene's one and only save point.

Floor 2[]

In this floor, there are two vacant rooms. Each one contains a Wardog armed with a shotgun who will move out of these rooms to patrol the area if they weren't alerted earlier or run out of the rooms to meet Cash with a helping of lead. He deals with both Wardogs so that he can proceed to the next floor, typically by doing them in before they could do him in as well.

Floor 3[]

There is a Wardog carrying a shotgun watching over this floor's stairs from the top. After him is a machete-wielding Wardog who will spawn in a shadowy corner at the end of a hallway. The left side of the hallway has a room filled with body bags, headless corpses, overturned beds and a bottle of Painkillers. Cash handles them both through stealthy kills or he guns them down, alerting two Wardogs with machetes from the next floor to this floor. He deals with these Wardogs as well with either a stealthy or loud approach.

Floor 4[]

If the player was stealthy in the previous floor, he will find two Wardogs with machetes. Just as Cash sees these Wardogs, another one with a Shotgun will come running to the end of the hallway. Cash deals with these Wardogs before facing the last two shotgunner Wardogs who will run from Ramirez's floor to face Cash here.

Final Floor: Kill Ramirez[]

Once Cash reaches the fifth floor and moves past the security camera watching over the stairs, Ramirez will run to a door at the end of this floor's hallway and escape to the fourth floor. Cash must kill him before 2 minutes and 30 seconds pass, or else backup will arrive. He can find Ramirez's sniper rifle in the room where he tried to snipe Cash from earlier as well as one Rifle Bullets pickup and a bottle of Painkillers. At the end of the hallway, there is a lone Wardog armed with a Shotgun guarding the door Ramirez went through earlier. This Wardog may be killed or ignored by Cash.

Chasing Ramirez[]

As Ramirez descends the apartment, his escape will be covered by his men. In the apartment section of the chase, there are three shotgunners on Floor 4, one shotgunner on Floor 3, two machete-wielding maniacs coming up to Floor 3, and one machete Wardog followed by a shotgunner on Floor 2 where Ramirez can be shot and killed. There are three shotgunners outside the apartment who will be joined by Ramirez if he makes it there. He will be armed with a Shotgun like them if he wasn't killed earlier.

Should time run out, two Wardogs with sniper rifles will arrive from a gate near the exit and join the hunt to kill or be killed. Cash can complete the scene by killing Ramirez by any means except executions (which he is immune to), allowing him to exit the scene through the same gate he entered it.

End[]

Cash runs away from the remaining Wardogs who are firing their guns at him. A car pulls up in front of him and the reporter yells at him to get in the car. He enters her car before they drive off to an empty street where he grabs her and raises his fist at her, threatening the Journalist to pull over. The reporter submits and stops the car before Cash demands her identity, having seen her before. She shoos him off of her and reveals to him that she is a reporter who was at his execution.

Cash urges her to go on and she lets him in on her month-long investigation on Starkweather's operation. Cash asks her who this “Starkweather” person is and she tells him that he is the voice on his earpiece who guided him in the snuff film and goes on to say that Starkweather is on to her, so she needs to get the evidence from her apartment and leave town before she is caught by him to become one of his “extras”. Cash questions her ability to expose Starkweather, causing the Journalist to confidently assure him about that as well as it elevating her career. He then urges her to drive to her apartment before they leave, unaware that they were watched.

Trivia[]

  • “Divided They Fall” is the second half of the phrase “United we stand, divided we fall” often used as a motto encouraging unity in groups by working together & showing the danger of individual members working on their own which may destroy their group. This scene's name might be a reference to the following:
    • The fate of the Wardogs after Cash singlehandedly murdered most of the gang's members and their leader.
    • Ramirez delaying his delivery of Cash to Starkweather for a mere game. In this scene, one of Ramirez's dialogue reveals that he has beef with Starkweather.
