Smiley 5, also known as the Party Host, is a member of the Smileys in Manhunt.
Background[]
He is mentally ill, believing he is the deceased socialite hostess of a fancy dinner party. He is delusional in the same vein as Barry, having murdered the hostess in a drunken fit induced by bad blood.
According to his dialogues, he was an alcoholic (and violent) party-goer related to the party hostess, as he may comment on how they still bicker between each other, pretend to calm him down when he gets violent (in a manner as if he were not related to her), and requesting to leave the arguments after the party is over[1].
An alternative character interpretation of Smiley 5 may be that he transported himself into a fantasy world of lavish upper class parties and pretending to be a rich person as a coping mechanism for his mental illnesses or being locked up in the asylum, and as time went on, he completely lost himself in his delusions, believing in them constantly even when his life is threathened.
Personality and Mannerisms[]
- He acts as a fancy dinner hostess, adopting a friendly and helping persona.
- Despite this, he appears to be full of rancor and annoyance, as he desperately wishes for his dinner party to go well, speaking very darkly when things start falling apart.
- When he is beaten to the ground, he will vehemently apologize if he has offended Cash in any way.[2]
- In one line, he will humorously mention that murdering the host is a terrible "Faux Pas".
- He likes to talk about the party food, and how the party is going (either well or wrong.)
Relationships[]
With the Smileys[]
He sees them as his party-goers or guests.
With Cash[]
He sees Cash as his guest of honor (AKA his former self). Whenever he spots Cash, he calls other Smileys over so he can entertain them[3][4]. He also scolds him for impolite behavior, (I.E when fighting). Still, he is also shown to be kind enough (in his sick mind) to introduce him to everyone at the party.[5]
With Valiant Video and the manhunt[]
With the hunt itself, he sees her as his own dinner party, as mentioned before. However, he does seem to know who Starkweather is, though not very much, as he refers to him as "Mrs. Starkweather", as if he were one of the invitees.
Trivia[]
- The Party Host seems to reference a lot of random dishes, that she sometimes doesn't pronounce right.
- She mentions a dish named "Chlorizo Salad" which likely refers to Chorizo, a type of pork sausage popular in many Latin countries.
