I'm going to deal with Starkweather personally, thank him for my 'second chance'. You're my backup if I don't make it. Have a nice life.
Cash tells the Journalist that he is going to deal with Starkweather alone.

Press Coverage is the 15th Scene featured in Manhunt.

This Scene is similar to the Drunk Driving Scene where the player escorts the Tramp to the graveyard in East Los Albos. The player command the Journalist exactly as the player did the Tramp. The green bar in the top-right corner indicates the Journalist's health. The player can make her go through Painkillers if it becomes low. If the player leave the Journalist's side for a length of time she will get spooked and come running to the player no matter where the player is—she is better at finding the player than the Cops. This could spell trouble for her if the player is in a middle of a gun battle. When leaving the Journalist to perform a lengthy task, the player can command her to follow Cash and then stay again to allot sufficient time to operate alone.

When a cop spots a dead colleague, he will alert all others that the fugitive is A&D. This will cause all officers who are wielding nightsticks to draw their guns and will shoot if they see the player. Leaving a dead cop in plain sight is a good tactic for players that needs to obtain guns.

Plot Summary[]

Cash is rescued from the remaining Wardogs by the Journalist who lets him in her car. She reveals to him the identity of the Director and her plan to expose his operations, which Cash decides to participate in for revenge. But first, she must get her evidence from her apartment to do this. Unfortunately, the C.C.P.D. are one step ahead as they lock down her place, so Cash must escort her there first while facing the police before escaping to the subway to hunt down Starkweather.

Scene[]

Introduction[]

In a call, Starkweather informs corrupt CCPD Police Chief, Gary Schaffer, that Cash has escaped from his clutches. Schaffer is shocked and in disbelief before he is cut off by Starkweather who orders him to deploy the police to hunt down Cash and the Journalist. Starkweather tells him to not file the arrest report and capture both of them alive. Schaffer attempts to assert his jurisdiction to Starkweather, but he is cut off again when the latter reminds him of the job that he has given to him and who's paying him for it.

Cash and the Journalist arrive at a road block in a tunnel and the former tells her to park the car and leave it there. She hesitates by telling him that her apartment is still a few blocks away, but Cash tells her to be quiet and stick with him to survive.

First Side of the Police Barricade[]

Way to the Apartment[]

The player starts inside a tunnel with a construction area in it. At the end of the tunnel are two cops with their backs turned to the player. They are armed with nightsticks and are guarding one of the entrances to the perimeter ahead. Luckily for the player, there are various options to deal with these two.

There is a crowbar found near the excavated road and inside a shed as well as a brick for distraction or stoning hunters. There is also a gas-powered generator that can be turned on to make continuous noise, causing one of the cops to investigate it and turn it off. Since they are wielding batons, they will swap them for revolvers if they spot another dead cop. With these options, it is up to the player on how they will deal with the two cops ahead.

After dealing with the two cops, the player and the Journalist may exit the tunnel. The road ahead turns right to where her place is, but there are 6 cops guarding it and a barricade blocking the road to the distant casino. Parked near the museum in front of the apartment is a police van with a locked compartment carrying a Heavy Handgun with 4 rounds and a bottle of Painkillers and a police car with Painkillers behind it. Only one cop has a baton and thus will swap it for a gun if he sees a dead cop. The rest of them have guns. The journalist will only open the door to her apartment if the player isn't in the spotted status. As such, Cash kills the police team surrounding the apartment, clearing the way for her to unlock the door.

Apartment Infiltration[]

The pair make it inside the apartment. Standing guard at the entrance to her room is a cop with a Shotgun. In her bedroom are two cops, one with a revolver and one with a shotgun. There are four cops with revolvers in her dining room where a conspicious white panel on the wall is. Cash has to kill all the cops here so that the area will be safe for the Journalist to enter her apartment. The player must lead her to the white panel, where she reveals is a secret door to a secret room containing her evidence.

After she accesses her secret room, she shows him the evidence she gathered against Starkweather. Cash acknowledges it and tells her to take it out of town with her. The Journalist is confused on why he won't be escorting her any further and Cash explains that he will hunt down the Director by himself to “thank him for his second chance.” However, he tells her that he still relies on her as backup for taking down Starkweather before coldly bidding her goodbye. He then climbs out of her apartment through a window connected to an emergency exit stairs.

Other Side of the Police Barricade[]

Alleys[]

Cash climbs down the emergency exit stairs and finds himself in an alley. The alley ahead of him turns right where a savepoint can be found, but before he can reach it, a cutscene will play where two cops hear the police dispatcher ordering them to seal the perimeter now that sniper units have moved in. One of the cops, who wields a revolver, becomes very worried when he realizes that the situation has escalated, while the other with a shotgun suggests that they check what's happening. These two walk down the alley and can be dealt with by any means at Cash's disposal.

At the end of the alley, there's a police van parked near the police barricade. Breaking it open will allow Cash to get a shotgun loaded with two shells and a bottle of Painkillers. Once Cash reaches a certain distance at the street ahead, a cutscene will play where a cop armed with a Sniper Rifle will perch himself in a balcony on top of Chips Casino.

The Chips Casino[]

Seeing the sniper on top of Chips Casino, Cash can approach this situation in a variety of ways. But the sniper isn't the only threat, as the casino is filled with three cops patrolling the way to the sniper. To the left of the casino, the road is blocked by two vans where a team of seven cops are standing guard. Should the casino sniper be killed stealthily, police dispatch will attempt to get a sitrep on him and six cops will come running to the casino to investigate by shooting at the balcony until they spot the player. Cash clears through these cops as well, allowing him to get past the police vans.

Before he can proceed to the final area, the area contains some useful items for the player. The doors to the casino can be destroyed to yield a Glass Shard for silent kills, a pack of Shotgun Shells (8) can be found in the casino lobby, the left police van contains a bottle of Painkillers, the right van contains an ammo pickup of Rifle Bullets (6) and Painkillers outside of it. Some of the cops near the vans dropped shotguns and Light Handguns, a direct upgrade to the revolver in terms of fire rate and ammo capacity.

Subway Entrance[]

After Cash goes through the casino, he can find a 3 cops with shotguns guarding the entrance to the subway. Providing overwatch is another sniper on top of the roof of Tyson Tires. Cash can deal with these cops by any means at his disposal before proceeding to the end of the level beyond the entrance of the Subway building where he can descend the stairs to the subway, finishing the scene.

Just like what he did with the Tramp, Cash must protect her from the officers who will attack her on sight, providing coverage for the press. Also refers to the press (in the form of the journalist) providing coverage on Starkweather's snuff film ring that he may be exposed and the Journalist's career will elevate.
  • If the player dies inside the apartment after activating the save point inside it, they will not be able to return outside as the apartment complex entrance will be locked.
  • There are a total of 32 hunters in this scene.
