Rockstar Games, Inc. is an American game publisher based in New York City, and a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. The company was established in 1998, as a company housing assets of BMG Interactive bought by Take-Two. It is headed by Sam Houser since its inception.
Rockstar Games houses an internal team of game development studio known collectively as Rockstar Studios, and those studios frequently cooperate on high-profile titles. The publisher's most notable developer is Rockstar North, which created the Manhunt series and primarily works on the Grand Theft Auto series.
Rockstar Games is sometimes also referred to as Rockstar New York, Rockstar NY or Rockstar NYC. Rockstar Games also sports a motion capture studio in Bethpage, New York. The publisher as a whole and its subsidiaries have been critically acclaimed for their games, many of whom saw strong commercial success.
