The Scarecrow is a cut boss who was supposed to appear in Manhunt, as the former leader of the Smileys.

Background[]

As said, he would be the main leader of the Smileys, but after the Piggsy debacle which he was apparently responsible for it, he would lose his rank and live like a tramp on the streets. He would sleep on the streets, with the desire to kill Piggsy and redeem himself in the eyes of his sponsor. He would normally wear rags resembling like "any other derelict".

However, once he donned his mask and his homemade axe, he would transform into his persona as Scarecrow. There would likely be a confrontation with him, but he was never added to the game and remained a concept.

Fate[]

Jesperson never made it into the game, but half of his concept remained as the Tramp. Like the Scarecrow, he also mutters nonsense under the influence of alcohol. The only difference, however, is that the Scarecrow would let out manical tittering and hiss once he switches to his persona.

Trivia[]

  • The Scarecrow has an alternative Halloween design that shows him with a pumpkin on his head with one eye visible in the darkness.
  • The name "Kenneth Jesperson" may be inspired by "Keith Jesperson" (infamously known as the "Happy Face Killer")[1]. His letters to authorities were signed with smiley faces, which could have been the inspiration for the Smileys.
    • In Mouth of Madness, there are several Smiley writings on the walls that are signed with smiley faces, similar to Jesperson's nature when he wrote his letters.
