- “Used for strangling opponents, it's silent and quite deadly. This weapon can be seen throughout Starkweather's films. A simple mode of killing, the weapon is made of two handles joined by a razor sharp wire. Used by sneaking up behind a victim and pulling the wire over his head and onto his neck. The wire squeezes the life out of him. Own the signature weapon that is seen throughout Starkweather's features - $75”
The Wire is a green class weapon available in Manhunt and Manhunt 2.
Description[]
The Wire's use in murder perfectly expresses one of the many fragilities of the human body. Even a thin and durable wire, if applied with enough force, may close the airway of an unfortunate victim and asphyxiate them. If the user is nasty enough, they may have the mind to saw someone's head off with this surprisingly sharp length of wire.
Valiant Video sold garrotes exclusively to their members for $29 each at Valiant-ent.tv's Adult Store. They are light and durable, rust free, and can fit around anyone's neck.[2]
Following Starkweather's last film, Valiant Video sold originals and reproductions of the Wires used throughout his snuff movies to their members only for $75 each.[3]
The Wire returns in Manhunt 2 with a nastier form, its sharp edge is now lined with the small barbs found in barbed wire. Ouch.
Expect to inflict some serious gashes while choking a hunter and new ways on using this to incur as much pain as possible before death.Appearance/Influence[]
Just a length of nondescript wire that's winded into a circle. When Cash uses it to execute, he wraps each end around his hands due to the lack of handles.
It is presumed to be made of a durable metal since it can slice through necks, sawing through flesh and bone with great effort.
Manhunt 2’s version looks more like an actual garrote wire with two wooden handles that are wrapped with each end of the wire.
Additionally, the wire part also looks nastier as it now uses what appears to be razor wire or barbed wire.Abilities/Properties[]
Melee System[]
While wielding the Wire, the player is able to punch, block, and grapple. It adds nothing new to melee combat and it does the same damage as one's fists in hand-to-hand.
Disposability[]
As a Green class weapon, the Wire can only execute one hunter before it is lost from the player's inventory.
Silent Executions[]
The Wire is a Green class weapon, its executions make no noise. The player must still look out for proximity to hunters and their line of sight.
Surface Knocking[]
For the full page on this mechanic, see Surface Knocking. |
With the Wire equipped, the player can knock on surfaces to make one large pulse of noise that travels instantly to attract hunters within its range. Players can tell when they are able to knock on a surface if Cash is holding his Wire close to himself when he's very close to and facing any surface. The player cannot perform any quick attacks or hard attacks in this state until the player exits it via backing off or facing away from a surface. Pressing either the Action button or the Action2 button will cause Cash to swing his Wire-wrapped fist at a surface and make a large pulse of noise. The player is also able to knock on surfaces while pressing against cover to the same effect.
However, the player may still produce the same large pulse of noise without getting close to a surface by simply performing any quick attack or hard attack towards a surface without getting too close to it, otherwise Cash will detect that he is near and facing a wall thus he will knock on it instead.

Carried over from the previous game is the Wire's Green class weapon attribute of being lost from the player's inventory after executing one hunter.
Silent Executions[]

Trivia[]
- Manhunt
- According to the texture files, a different version of the Wire was originally meant to appear during "Deliverance". It is likely that it had exclusive execution animations for Piggsy, like the scene's variant of the Glass Shard.
- Also, the Wire was originally planned to appear during Born Again, Drunk Driving, Doing Time, Wrong Side of the Tracks, Brawl Game and Time 2 Die.
